Thanks for this!

Just one thing, can you update xbmc.service like the [community] package? (bug https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/39234)

Oh damn. I was convinced I included that. I have now. Thanks.

I believe what niekez is saying is you need this line:
conflicts=('xbmc' 'xbmc-pulse' 'xbmc-svn' 'xbmc-git')

and maybe

provides=('xbmc')

which is from xbmc-git PKGBUILD. it's not about where the files are overwritten, it is about keeping pacman in sync. if you uninstall xbmc-git after installing xbmc-beta...you have a problem. pacman must uninstall xbmc-git before installing xbmc-beta, this is achieved with the conflicts line.

Thanks. Updated accordingly.

The build failed for me on missing package: libxslt
After installing libxslt through pacman, the build completed fine.

Chais commented on 2014-03-08 12:25

Yes it does, as it's installed to the same directories and files. The binary has the same path, as has the service, etc.

Not with xbmc-git.

niekez commented on 2014-03-08 07:17

This doesn't conflict with other xbmc installs.

Apologies, upstream has stopped releasing tarballs since beta 1, so I had to get the code from directly from git, and ofc I didn't care to check what happens when you put 2 fragments in a source URL. Now I know it doesn't work. Seems like the commit fragment is enough anyway, so here it is, pkgbuild fixed. Thx for the report.

This occurs on two separate machines.
