@ruro, I agree, but I probably have no time to do it this week. If either you or @huyizheng are interested in adding the patch I can make either (or both) of you co-maintainer.

@xuanruiqi can we at least get a temporary patch as described by @huyizheng. This issue basically bricks the system for zsh users, since PATH ends up being empty. And it's something that's really hard to debug. I spent like 4 hours today debugging why my system wouldn't boot only to find out that intel-compiler-base clears my PATH.

They also have a forum where I've seen at least one bug report. Maybe that's a better place...

Hm, my support ticket was closed because I'm using a free copy of the product. Could any paying user report the bug (as discovered by @huyizheng) on our behalf? Thanks.

It looks like the link has changed to:

http://registrationcenter-download.intel.com/akdlm/IRC_NAS/tec/16744/parallel_studio_xe_2020_update2_cluster_edition.tgz

With uppercase IRC_NAS

I'm having problems when downloading the URL:

I have opened a bug on the Intel bug tracker. In the mean time I should probably try to patch the script.

huyizheng commented on 2020-07-26 03:24

@xuanruiqi, No. Unfortunately, I don't know how to report to upstream, either.

xuanruiqi commented on 2020-07-25 16:34

@huyizheng, Thank you, I have noted this problem. Did you report the bug to upstream? I haven't figured out how to do so...

Notice to users that uses zsh as login shell:

Since version 2020.2.254, Intel introduces a new function at /opt/intel/composerxe/linux/bin/compilervars.sh (which was sourced at /etc/profile.d/intel_compilers.sh):

fix_environment() {
  remove_duplicate_paths "PATH"
  remove_duplicate_paths "LD_LIBRARY_PATH"
}
# ----------------------function fix_environment-------------------------------

# ------------------function remove_duplicate_paths----------------------------
remove_duplicate_paths() {
  local arg=$1
  local arr=(`echo ${!arg} | sed 's/:/\n/g'`)
  local fixarr=()
  (...... add items fixarr from arr ......)
  local fixarg=`echo ${fixarr[*]} | sed 's/ /:/g'`
  eval export \$arg="${fixarg}"
}

But however, zsh doesn't support ${!FOO}, then the function remove_duplicate_paths will always export empty environment variables (since the arr is empty). So the function fix_environment will erase your PATH and LD_LIBRARY_PATH (i.e. your PATH will no longer contains /usr/bin, etc).

To fix this problem, one way is to change

  local arr=(`echo ${!arg} | sed 's/:/\n/g'`)

into

  eval "value=\"\${$arg}\""
  local arr=(`echo ${value} | sed 's/:/\n/g'`)
