This was a crumby version which doesn't really support video codecs other than a .xwd to ffmpeg trick.

Switched to ffcast and direct usage of ffmpeg (ffcast behaves strange when recording the whole screen).

I switched to gtk-recordMyDesktop. No native avi unfortunately.

At least I found ffcast. Not as convinient as Xvidcap but it works better than all other screen grabbers I tried.
