Indeed, this currently must be run manually. Unfortunately, I am not familiar enough with writing systemd services or udev rules to provide them at the moment. What does yours look like?

Does this have to be manually run whenever you want to connect a gc adapter? Would it be a good idea to set up systemd service (that's how mine is configured)? Or could there possibly be a rule that makes this run/stop when a gc adapter is plugged/unplugged?

For information, this driver is not needed anymore in sdl2 applications (mame, retroarch, etc.) since version 2.0.12 because there is internal support for the adapter.
