What exactly is outdated?

I don't see any newer version.
Neither for the original webalizer (2.23-08) nor the patch set (Patch 30).
The most current version is from 2014.

I looked into geoip vs. geodb:
GeoDB is the backend and dat provided by webalizer.
GeoIP does the same and has the library and the dat provided in packages in [extra]. Both are supported directly with config values and webalizer flags.

Since webalizer itself updates *very* rarely I don't see a point in keeping the GeoDB updated myself when we do have a geoIP database in the repos.

So I basically drop GeoDB support and don't ship the GeoDB dat file.
(Debian does the same, by the way, didn't check for other distributions)

If you do have "GeoDB yes" in your webalizer.conf you have to change to "GeoIP yes". On the plus side: you do get an updated dat file everytime the geoip-database package in extra updates:
The same if you run webalizer with the "-j" flag: You have to switch to using the "-w" flag.

updated for webalizer 2.23.08, including the fix for mandir

about using geoip-database: I probably need to patch (the patched) webalizer for that (since the path is different; or at least add a symlink) and I have to check if this works. I'll check on that.

Why not using the geoip database from the geoip-database package?

Hm, I know. Somehow anonymous ftp login wasn't working when I tried before, but it works now.

There's a new geodb available (20111201). It's updated monthly.

Thanks for reviving this one!

I've found a small typo. The url is actually "".
