Currently seems to fail to compile on kernel 4.11

I applied the patches here:
https://pastebin.com/McqmUf0u
https://pastebin.com/yjbDHiSX

with success

I'm disowning this. I used to enjoy hacking it together back in the day, but now I haven't even touched it for almost two years, and rains should be the new maintainer to decide onward.

I did a full write up some time ago of my "farewell speech", which I've been meaning to post, but now I'm like nah. You can read it there: https://pastebin.com/A8F5jEBK

Hi,

I am running VMWare Player 7.1.4 (the last rev to support Unity under Linux hosts).

I am upgrading Debian 8 to Debian 9 which will mean Kernel 4.9 instead of 3.16.0.4

Can I use this patch as-is or any other hacks I will need.

My Linux-fu level is only about medium strength so any help much appreciated.

Thanks!
Mark

Thank you @rakotomandimby, patch applied with no errors.

I think you should first upgrade to the latest workstation. For example 12.5.6 at the time I write.

Hi, tried the workaround for gcc 7 in the wiki, but still failed:

2017-05-28T21:02:14.290+02:00| modconfig| W115: Failed to build vmnet. Failed to execute the build command.

I second tjc. To summarize:

before installation:

# sed 's/gcc version 7/gcc version 6/' /proc/version > /tmp/version
# mount --bind /tmp/version /proc/version

now install/ reinstall ...

# umount /proc/version && rm /tmp/version

# cp -r /usr/lib/vmware-installer/2.1.0/lib/lib/libexpat.so.0 /usr/lib/vmware/lib

and before running the client:

# cd /usr/lib/vmware/lib/libz.so.1
# mv -i libz.so.1 libz.so.1.old
# ln -s /usr/lib/libz.so.1 .

start the client:

$ vmplayer &
