NOTE: There is NO support for Linux 5.8, Oracle Considers 5.2 Unsupported as of July 2020.
No testcases currently build for Linux 5.8 -- Use the LTS kernel if you cannot move to
the 6.X branch until further notice.

There will be no further support for the 5.2 branch from Oracle. LTS will continue to build so long as the kernel remains <= 5.7. Oracle did put out a 5.2.45 testbuild (build=139677), but that build fails with Linux 5.8 as well.

virtuialbox-bin testbuild 6.1.13 (build=139989, sdkbuild=139990) modules build against the 5.8.1 kernel just fine and virtualbox-ext-oracle 6.1.13 (build=139990) provides optional USB support. Also note, the slowdown seen with --headless 32-bit windows guests on initial release of Virtualbox 6.0 has been remedied in the current 6.1 version.

This package will likely be disowned in the future as 5.2.44 is the last of the 5.2 branch from Oracle.

Currently broken with Linux 5.8

Updated to testcase 5.2.39 build 136804 to support Linux 5.6

All is working fine -- don't forget to update virtualbox-ext-oracle-5 (though the 5.6 kernel does have VBOXSF support without guest additions)

All is well with virtualbox-bin-5. The problems experienced with the Linux 5.4 to 5.5 update coincidentally happened at the same time an underlying disk on the build/test system began experiencing high io_wait times. The disk generate no error in the journal and mdadm reported both disks and the array as fine. However, since the build and guests for testing resided on this array, the high io_wait on one of the disks in the array brought the guests to their knees in what appeared to be a 5.5 related issue, but was actually a /dev/sdc related issue. Enjoy the package. The virtualbox-ext-oracle 5.2.38 likewise builds and works fine with this package.

Two Bugs Currently With Oracle (now Closed) (closed - problem was hi io_wait due to disk on test box) (fixed in 5.2.38)

These bugs were based on the last testcase for 5.2.37. The first has not been fixed in 5.2.38, I'm almost into my 2nd hour waiting on the guest addition build to see if the last bug is resolved. (it is -- it just took 50 minutes to compile the guest additions to find out)

Any chance we can get this upgraded to 5.2.38? I tried editing the pkgbuild myself but trying to figure out what svn revision their on with that version without checking out the entire repo is a PITA.

Bug Opened With Oracle -

NOTE: as of the 5.5 kernel this package no longer works - Oracle is aware of the issue

Furthermore, if you update the host to Linux 5.5, there are one or more package changes to other packages that prevent communication between the host and guest in a reasonable manner resulting in a 10 minute boot to a bare Archlinux guest text console. All issues are in work. If you would like to help, please feel free. I have so far downgraded both host and guest to 1/21/20 (I date I know things were fine) using and the problem remains -- so it appears a config is also changed on the host that isn't reverted on downgrade.

bziur commented on 2019-12-16 11:01 this patch allowed me to use virtualbox 5.2.34 with kernel 5.4.3. If anyone's interested
