Signal Desktop does not work if your /tmp is mounted with option noexec -- see https://github.com/signalapp/Signal-Desktop/issues/2707

As a workaround one can use an alternative dir like so:

mkdir -p "$HOME"/tmp/signal

export TMPDIR="$HOME"/tmp/signal

signal-desktop

Apparently upstream removes the old package immediately when releasing a new version. So if you encounter a 404 error when building, just click on “Flag package out-of-date” above. Thanks!

@buzo: I think for a security-oriented program like Signal, that's something users would still actually prefer. But you're right it does add some overhead to installing the package. Most AUR helpers will handle that automatically for you though (like aurman).

Jonhoo: That would mean that everyone would have to import the correct PGP key in order to build the package. Would that not be too much hassle? I have seen other packages with lots of comments complaining about that.

Jonhoo commented on 2018-09-15 19:17

It'd be awesome of this package also automatically checked the signature on the .deb file!

Thank you both. I've added "buzo" because he already has some upvoted packages in AUR and was the first :)

Information about "Quality control":

Thanks!

jbbr: I can co-maintain as well.

jbbr: I could co-maintain.

Sorry for the delay, is anyone willing to participate as a co-maintainer for faster updates? 1.16.0 will be pushed soon, right now I'm waiting for the .deb-download to finish with very slow wifi in a train.

buzo commented on 2018-09-06 16:55

I already flagged it out-of date. Maybe add one or two co-maintainers for fast updates?

Well, maybe most of you know this, but if Signal prompts a message it needs to be updated in order to keep working and this version has not yet updated, you can go to their webpage, check the windows or mac download link to see what's the current version, change it in the PKGBUILD 'pkgver' field, save, close and then run makepkg -g, and replace the signatures in sha512sums field with the ones generated by the command and you are good to go whereas the package updates itself.

@alexandria - thanks; I'd thought it was just me experiencing the issues :P
