The build issue has been fixed, the problem was with the npm version in the repo. See https://github.com/signalapp/Signal-Desktop/issues/5118#issuecomment-813175445 for more info.

If you want precompiled binaries of this package, you can add the chaotic-aur repo to pacman.conf, see https://aur.chaotic.cx/ for instructions and then install signal-desktop-beta.

Hello, it actually does not build, not the actual package, not the 5.0.0 beta. There's a problem that currently I don't know what's causing it. Even the actual package from ArchLinux (https://github.com/archlinux/svntogit-community/tree/packages/signal-desktop/trunk) doesn't build as well.

I am working together with the maintainer of the official package trying to find a solution.

Edit:

⨯ cannot execute cause=exit status 1 errorOut=npm ERR! missing script: install

@Edu4rdSHL, I am so sorry, I mistakenly got the AUR packages mixed up!

Edu4rdSHL commented on 2021-02-25 02:17

greencopper, report that to signal-desktop-beta-bin.

Update: greencopper, again, that issue is from signal-desktop-beta-bin, our package doesn't have that issue.

UPDATE: Please ignore this! I got the AUR packages mixed up!

Seems like the URL isn't working any longer:

@Edu4rdSHL Good to know, I was not aware of this. You are right, as the comparison proofs, just the version number differs https://github.com/signalapp/Signal-Desktop/compare/v1.40.0-beta.8...v1.40.0#files_bucket

Hey, @kratz00. The code used for the beta8 and the 1.40.0 release is the same, there isn't need to rename the package or update anything. Everytime that a stable release is tagged, there's a equivalent beta release but not the other way around, soon we will have a 1.41.0-betaX release with features/improvements no included in a stable one, so in summary this package will always be ahead or equal to stable version but never behind. According to the above, my "plans" are to maintain the package as usual.

@Edu4rdSHL

Thanks for keeping this package up to date and all this in a very speedy manner :)

The final 1.40.0 was released yesterday (https://github.com/signalapp/Signal-Desktop/releases/tag/v1.40.0)

Time to rename this package and get rid of the 'beta' or what are your plans?

Thanks, cleaning the yarn cache was the step, that I were missing. Now it works. :)
