@eworm thanks so should I change the email protocol from sendmail to what?

eworm commented on 2019-09-17 11:09

I do not have sendmail either. You can configure this in .config/rss2email.cfg

toketin commented on 2019-09-17 11:07

I can't get it working since it seems I don't have Sendmail installed on my system. Why is not required as dependency itself?

[ERROR] cause: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/usr/sbin/sendmail': '/usr/sbin/sendmail'

The package is not unmaintained, I'm kept up to date with releases on both wking's repo and the org rss2email so no worries using GitHub RSS feeds: https://stackoverflow.com/a/20840694/4935114

The issue is in python-feedparser's feedparser.py, line 855 and 859: sometimes the type of piece is bytes (not str) so startswith fails. But when I fix this I get another error later:

sax parsing error: <unknown>:36:69: not well-formed (invalid token)

No idea what that is about.

Ah, it's apparently not a new issue: https://github.com/wking/rss2email/issues/94

I'll try to find a workaround...

For the past couple of days, when I do `r2e run` I keep getting:

error while running time limited function: startswith first arg must be bytes or a tuple of bytes, not str
cause: startswith first arg must be bytes or a tuple of bytes, not str

Any idea what might be the problem?

3.9 has been out for a while.

Actually it is a fork with fixes and some new features, like IMAP support.

Is this the designated successor to rss2email?
I'm not really clear on that, since I never saw a note from Lindsey Smith
(long-time rss2email maintainer) about it.
If it is, I'd like to see this merged with the original rss2email package,
just for sanity's sake. Alternatively, this package might be renamed
to rss2email, and the current rss2email could be renamed to rss2email-legacy,
if there's some good reason to keep 2.71 around.
