@aminvakil: Thanks! Usually I'm using the regular linux kernel, but you're right, I accidentally booted linux-harded that time. Can you explain what's different for linux-hardened that those special permissions are required for Rocket.Chat?

aminvakil commented on 2021-03-23 13:20

@user20159 Do you use linux-hardened? That's normal then.

Strange. rocketchat-desktop works smoothly for me. And I'd rather not want to have a setuid root binary packaged, since the security risk is too high.

Do you have any special setup, user20159?

user20159 commented on 2021-03-23 07:33

I got the following error out of nowhere when trying to launch Rocket.Chat:

$ rocketchat-desktop
[1624:0323/] The SUID sandbox helper binary was found, but is not configured correctly. Rather than run without sandboxing I'm aborting now. You need to make sure that /opt/Rocket.Chat/chrome-sandbox is owned by root and has mode 4755.
Trace/breakpoint trap (core dumped)

Uninstalling and re-building the package did not fix it. I had to manually do

$ sudo chmod 4755 /opt/Rocket.Chat/chrome-sandbox

To fix it.

I confirm the problem with version 3.1. Application does not open from tray

ferretwithaberet commented on 2020-12-23 17:36

Update 3.1.0-1 breaks application for me. Downgraded to 3.0.7-1 and it works again, not sure if something is wrong with the application itself or with this package. Starting application from terminal does not display any errors.

Edit: By "breaks application" I mean it launches, but I cannot show the application, it stays minimized.

The patch from 3.0.0 to 3.0.1 should have solved the validating URL issue, but it does not for me. Anyone else having this issue as well?

Anyone else having problems with webcam/microphone permissions in Jitsi Meet for conference calls? I don't see anyway to grant the permissions. I had to switch over to using Firefox instead to get it to work.

No good reason to keep it optional, except that someone wants it. As I indicated, I tried the binary without having gconf in the system, and removing gconf as a dep, and it worked out fine. And after getting the upgrade, it's working fine without conf... Thanks !
