python-cytoolz was recently moved into community. There is currently a problem with some missing files in the package (most importantly which means distributed can't be used with it.

I have reported this as FS#66109 in the bug tracker. In the meantime, you need to either remove it and use the (slower) plain Python versions in python-toolz, or download the PKGBUILD and build a local copy for distributed to work.

Edit: this has been resolved in python-cytoolz 0.10.1-3.

The PKGBUILD for python-dask has recently been updated to mark it optional.

Previously, it was a check dependency i.e., required for the tests. In case you run into other packages like that, you need to give the --nocheck option to makepkg (or figure out how to tell your AUR helper to pass this to makepkg) to skip the checks.

The dependency of distributed on dask is specified upstream. I don't know if you can do something useful with distributed without dask, but I expect not (installing is always possible, it's just copying files). However, it seems to me that dask should only have an optional dependency on distributed, you can request that there.

There is a circular dependency between python-dask and python-distributed. However I could install python-distributed without python-dask.

I'm willing to maintain this? Should I make a new package or ask for ownership of this?

Hi, some dependencies are not needed (like python-locket), please check:
