This can be fixed by changing the git describe command in pkgver to be:

git describe --long --tags $(git rev-list --tags --max-count=1) | sed 's/^[v-]//;s/\([^-]*-g\)/r\1/;s/-/./g'

which will output the tag of the latest tagged commit across all branches
