I was also going to use overgrive, but backed off due to the rather weird attitude by the the devs. It seems they have issues in general. If you go to the comment section of the article by 'it's foss', people are talking about getting emails with f-words from the overgrive tech support. I'm not trusting my data with software made by such people, I'll try to use rclone or something.

I was going to use overgrive over insync, but after reading THIS message from @thefanclub. I dont want to support devs with this attitude! Going to pay for insync.

However this package installed like a charm. Thanks for the work @pedro00dk!

Was using odrive-bin but has a few things that bother me. Had heard/read good things and don't have an issue with a one-time license (though subscription models I tend to avoid like InSync) in some cases.

Response from @thefanclub is horrifying/stupifying - @dlezo nailed it.

Thanks for the work here, @pedro00dk, here's the dev pulls their head out of their posterior at some point :)

Back to looking for a good alternative that'll not have this problem in AUR or community - subscribed in case things twist upstream.

I created a pull request for you to update this package to v3.3.7-0.

The download link to v3.3.5 doesn't exist anymore.

thanks.

I can't believe what I'm reading. The developer (@thefanclub) is threating @pedro00dk for creating a build file and so helping everyone to use this software.

@thefanclub, you are doing it wrong. It's fine if you don't want to work your own build file for Arch Linux distributions. It's also fine if you don't want to help to those that are doing this selflessly job. But asking to remove a build file... and presenting legal reasons... come on... this is totally absurd and destructive, even for yourself.

Manjaro is actually the second most used Linux distribution (and it is an Arch Linux based distro). With this kind of demands like requiring to delete a build file you are loosing users. And most important: you are sending a very negative message and people like me will avoid your company when there are alternatives (and for your software, there are).

I hope @thefanclub finds the time to think about this again. But if your company was mine sure I won't be biting the hand that feeds me. I already bought an Insync license and not chosing overGrive among other things was because Insync has a nice AUR build file that I can use with Manjaro and Arch Linux.

@thefanclub: You have zero packages published right now. Publish a new package for your software, contribute fixing the problems of stop threating us. As I see it these are your 3 best options.

@pedro00dk: Thank you for your effort, your support when bugs appear and for your many quick messages. Me, as a user, really appreciate your work.

AUR is not storing your copyrighted work.

I find this strange: normally people are happy (specially for a product with a price) that the product is available on AUR and a lot of times the maintainer is the same as the copyright owner.

If I were you I would take care of the (free) remarks and collaborate to improve your products with AUR users, many of which are working in the field of software production.

As a side note, the problem is not in this AUR package, installation of the official one produces the same results

@pedro00dk - You have no right or permission to publish our copyrighted work. Remove this AUR and Git Repo.

pedro00dk commented on 2019-11-25 17:28

Hi, thefanclub guys, as I said before, it is for my own use, but anyone is free to do so. The reality is that not many of the packages in the AUR are in fact supported by their developers. Moreover, I'm not infringing on the AUR rules in https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Arch_User_Repository, as this package is merely a "build script" based on the original one, your software is not being modified by any means. And, any package is "potentially dangerous" in the AUR, the users know that and they should check the build files, as you should too. If you are willing to publish your package here, I will give you the repository ownership, otherwise, I will continue publishing the package.
