I fully agree. I was a faithful Obnam user, but after reading the news I already switched to Borg. I really recommend using Borg.

The package isn't going anywhere, but a backup program without maintenance is cause for considering a replacement. I am happy the support list is remaining open and I would be happy to see someone step up to take over maintenance. But users should be made aware of the project's state and many users likely missed the announcement in the other channels while they may see the notice here.

While this is true, the sources will be available continuously on the website.

python2-yaml is rather a dependency of python2-cliapp.

SanskritFritz commented on 2016-01-30 23:04

That is true. But it is a new version nevertheless.

Not updating to 1.19.1 because the only fix doesn't impact Arch.

I modified the PKGBUILD to build the latest version (1.19). The prefetch patch is no longer needed.

PKGBUILD patch here:

Patch for obnam to workaround this:

Reported upstream on the obnam-dev mailing list, hopefully my fix or another will be in 1.18.2.

Heads-up: paramiko-1.16.0 appears to break this pacakge.

I upgraded: python2-paramiko (1.15.3-1 -> 1.16.0-1)

And now obnam's sftp lib crashes:
