Some tips if you're having issues:

  1. If it complains about not being able to find .net core sdk, you can set the path in the preferences. Set it to /opt/dotnet/dotnet and it'll figure out the rest. (You do need to install dotnet-sdk, though)

  2. If it crashes shortly after opening a solution, try disabling the version control add-in (or just disable it in preferences). Worked for me

  3. If it works fine for a while and then randomly starts crashing, try applying this diff: https://github.com/mono/linux-packaging-monodevelop/blob/debian/7.5.0.1254-0xamarin1/debian/patches/4647.diff This was recommended to me, but did not actually solve the issue. Maybe it'll work for you, though

  4. Logs are in ~/.cache/MonoDevelop/Logs

Please be aware that this package is compiled from source and will download around 400MB of data.

Also remember I don't develop this application, I simply maintain the PKGBUILD, for issues/bugs with the application itself log a report at https://github.com/mono/monodevelop after doing the usual google for a solution.

@badonkadong: I am pretty sure it used to be and was moved to the AUR. However until msbuild starts supporting mono again in its latest build (see Build Status at https://github.com/Microsoft/msbuild) and fsharp is also elevated to the community repo I don't see this happening unfortunately.

Somebody should put this package into a binary repo (community ?)

@kamartikyan it is used during compiling and is also listed as a dependency:

http://www.monodevelop.com/developers/building-monodevelop/#linux

kamartikyan commented on 2018-03-26 10:37

Why does it needs fsharp?

Thanks @cl0ne good spot, have corrected.

mono 5.10.0.179 already in extra and this package builds successfully with it, so probably dependency mono-stable can be replaced with mono?

I have finally managed to install this package. I have executed "yaourt -S monodevelop-stable" from xterm console and during build changed dependency from msbuild-15-bin to msbuild-stable.

Also anyone getting the System.TypeInitializationException error, this is an issue with the latest mono build system which the dev's are aware of. To get around this in the mean time just run the package in xterm or under a tty. You can also just add "TERM=xterm" under the pkgbuild.

Experiencing the same problem: build stops while trying to get file http://download.mono-project.com/repo/ubuntu/pool/main/m/msbuild/msbuild_15.5+xamarinxplat.2017.08.16.12.03-0xamarin3+ubuntu1404b1_all.deb. Says "Aborting" after that.

Would appreciate a fix or an easy work-around.
