Former 'micro' was a binary as well, that's why it was merged into 'micro-bin'. The best way to build it from sources is to have a working golang environment already (e.x. GOPATHS exported, libraries etc.), otherwise setting this up from the beggining is a pain in the a*. Downloading 60MB of go package (300MB extracted) to compile binary less than 10MB? There is no interest for me to do it to be honest.

For all of you not willing to install binaries, the 'micro' package name is free to use, so everyone can adopt that package and maintain it. Feel free to do it, in a way you like it (i.e. from sources, no binary though).

micro-bin is what it is, a binary.

The PKGBUILD is good. Use a better aurhelper or makepkg with no leftovers in builddir ("Found micro.1 -> Found micro.desktop -> Found micro-logo-mark.svg...")

I am still failing, even after removing the package (in an attempt to cleanly-clean install it):

==> Making package: micro-bin 2.0.6-3 (Fri 17 Jul 2020 10:43:12 AM CEST)
==> Retrieving sources...
  -> Found micro.1
  -> Found micro.desktop
  -> Found micro-logo-mark.svg
  -> Found micro-2.0.6-linux64.tar.gz
==> Validating source files with sha256sums...
    micro.1 ... FAILED
    micro.desktop ... FAILED
    micro-logo-mark.svg ... Passed
==> ERROR: One or more files did not pass the validity check!
error downloading sources: micro-bin

I've changed it to fixed commits for now - until the next micro release

Still getting errors:

==> Making package: micro-bin 2.0.6-2 (Tue 14 Jul 2020 01:00:04 PM -03)
==> Retrieving sources...
  -> Found micro.1
  -> Found micro.desktop

    micro.svg ... Passed
==> ERROR: One or more files did not pass the validity check!

There will be no issue with next releases https://github.com/zyedidia/micro/issues/1765

The problem with a fixed commit is when it is becoming outdated which will still require changing the PKGBUILD.

Thanks for fixing them. Why not just use a raw link that references a specific commit though? You wouldn't need to convince upstream to do anything that way.

https://raw.githubusercontent.com/zyedidia/micro/ddc887f6e43965737a391e2e55e725aa465d1203/assets/packaging/micro.1 for example.

Yeah I suppose it should. Checksums fixed. I'll try to politely "force" upstream to package this stuff into release tarballs.

Keep getting this error:

=> Making package: micro-bin 2.0.6-1 (Thu 09 Jul 2020 12:17:47 PM EDT)
==> Retrieving sources...
  -> Found micro.1
  -> Found micro.desktop
  -> Found micro.svg
  -> Found micro-2.0.6-linux64.tar.gz
==> Validating source files with sha256sums...
    micro.1 ... FAILED
    micro.desktop ... FAILED
    micro.svg ... Passed
==> ERROR: One or more files did not pass the validity check!
Error downloading sources: micro-bin

Oh wait, I think it's because the PKGBUILD downloads directly from the Github master?? It should be downloading from a specific commit.

nycko123 commented on 2020-06-22 17:22

Would be great to have it all compressed in the release tarball. I may post a request upstream, someday... EDIT: icon added to the PKGBUILD, should be complete now
