Add backup=('etc/mdm/custom.conf')
to preserve user changes during upgrade

To successfully build this package, you also need autoconf, pkg-config, automake and libtool.

Apart from the comment by wassup (which is corrected), the file /usr/share/applications/mdmsetup.desktop still points to /usr/bin/mdmsetup

wassup commented on 2013-12-16 02:27

The policy file org.cinnamon.pkexec.mdmsetup.policy should be edited or, otherwise, mdmsetup does not work. The following line:

annotate key="org.freedesktop.policykit.exec.path">/usr/sbin/mdmsetup</annotate>

should be changed to:

annotate key="org.freedesktop.policykit.exec.path">/usr/bin/mdmsetup</annotate>

kenny3794: I had the exact same problem and managed to solve it. You have to add the following lines to /etc/mdm/custom.conf under the section [greeter]:

Browser=true
MinimalUID=1000
IncludeAll=true

The users' ids usually start at 1000 so something like git or postregsql users do not get included in the list.

After that, restart mdm with systemctl restart mdm and the user list should show up.

But beware! The cusomt.conf is overwritten on each update so you should save a copy in your home directory or something.

When I add the MDM Display Manager, I do not receive a user list, regardless of what theme I use, even those shown to provide user lists on linux-mint. I read that there are systemd interface issues outstanding with MDM, but I couldn't confirm if that was the cause of this problem. Is this a specific problem with my PC? What should I look into? Or is this a known bug?
