@BrainDamage: You're right, made changes you suggested

Thank you

you might want to change the tmpfiles data to something like:

z /etc/mautrix-whatsapp/* 0640 root mautrix-whatsapp -
d /var/log/mautrix-whatsapp 0700 mautrix-whatsapp mautrix-whatsapp

a) /etc/mautrix-whatsapp path gets auto-created by the config example bundled in the archive

b) the files only need to be readable for the mautrix-whatsapp daemon, not writeable, so those permission bits are more secure by default, moreover, the file(s) contain shared secrets that are best not world readable, any user in the mautrix-whatsapp group can access them anyway

c) if someone desires to give synapse direct access to the registration file, they can just do so by adding synapse to the mautrix-whatsapp group, eg. usermod -aG mautrix-whatsapp synapse, without any other config changes necessary

d) the log dir only requires read/write access from the mautrix-whatsapp user, and it contains potentially sensitive data, it's better if it's not world readable and not even group readable

@mattmurr You are right. Out of memory: Killed process 43203 (cc1) I add some memory to the vm. Now it compile without any problems. Thx

@julianuu: I'll make that change in the next 24H, thanks

@haddock: Are you able to build the package manually?

Sorry, I was unable to replicate on a fresh system but a google search seems to indicate it may be OOM killer?

I have a problem with compile. I got the Error: sqlite3-binding.c: In Funktion »sqlite3SelectNew«: sqlite3-binding.c:129019:10: Warnung: Funktion liefert möglicherweise Adresse einer lokalen Variablen zurück [-Wreturn-local-addr] 129019 | return pNew; | ^~~~ sqlite3-binding.c:128979:10: Anmerkung: hier deklariert 128979 | Select standin; | ^~~~~~~ ^X@sc/usr/lib/go/pkg/tool/linux_amd64/link: signal: killed

How about changing the default log to /var/log/mautrix-whatsapp?

@L0ric0: I'm going to do what you've suggested, it's in my todo list. The service file that is included is just an example but yes I agree that it should have it's own directory and run as it's own user. Thanks :)

please move the config file from /etc/synapse/mautrix-whatsapp/mautrix-whatsapp.yaml to something like /etc/maturix-whatsapp/mautrix-whatsapp.yaml as this bridge has nothing to do with synapse and the config would be misplaced if one used conduit or denderite as a homeserver

it would also be nice if mautrix-whatsapp used its own user as to have as litle attack surface as possible if it is conpormised (also the synapse user is not present on all systems)
