Some patches for BFQ conflict with patches for BFQ-dev.

To use linux-rt-bfq-dev smoothly apply bfq-reverts before bfq-dev patch. Otherwise the kernel will not compile.

The file package version 5.40 has a serious bug and prevents you from building the kernel. Please wait for a solution to this problem.

Check if this patch is actually the problem. If not, I'll keep looking. You can also show these differences.

there are some differences in the index ... don't know if it's really important.

Can you check and let me know?

Turbo commented on 2021-03-07 15:38

hi, Is the same as yours and Graysky's patch use in linux-ck (0001-ZEN-Add-sysctl-and-CONFIG-to-disallow-unprivileged-C)? If yes can we get rid of it?

sir_lucjan commented on 2021-03-04 17:50

I'll take a look at it and throw up a solution next week. Unfortunately, I'm heavily swamped with other projects and won't be able to make it before then. Try using the config from linux-rt and let us know if it works as it should. I can't rule out my own mistake, I may have missed an entry in the rush of work.

hi, i'm confused because the kernel doesn't show it is preempted, i didn't change anything from the initial config except i disabled CONFIG_BPF_PRELOAD ... any idea?

zcat /proc/config.gz | grep PREEMPT && cat /proc/version
# CONFIG_PREEMPT is not set
Linux version 5.11.2-rt9-1-rt-bfq-dev (linux-rt-bfq-dev@archlinux) (gcc (GCC) 10.2.0, GNU ld (GNU Binutils) 2.36.1) #1 SMP Thu, 04 Mar 2021 07:52:01 +0000

The configuration of this kernel is based on the stock one, the only difference is the functionality provided by the realtime patchset and additional optimizations for CPU types. Other than that it doesn't differ even by one single option. In addition, it contains a developer version of bfq - but this is probably not the problem, because I use it myself:

$ cat /proc/version && cat /sys/block/sda/queue/scheduler
Linux version 5.11.1.ll16-0-lucjan-git (linux-lucjan-git@archlinux) (gcc (GCC) 10.2.0, GNU ld (GNU Binutils) 2.36.1) #1 SMP PREEMPT Mon, 22 Feb 2021 22:20:47 +0000
[bfq] none

Try choosing a different I/O scheduler and if that does not solve the problem, then report the error to the realtime kernel developers. The kernel is about to undergo a fairly major overhaul with regard to bfq - but not this week, that's for sure. The realistic time for this change is a matter of two weeks.

Hi, The kernel line 5.11 is building fine but when i boot i have the following error: "mount /new_root: unknown filesystem type 'ext4' You are now bing dropped into an emergency shell." Same thing for the fallback image. Stock arch linux 5.11 is ok.

A small suggestion: bug related to sources on github report on github, okay? By way of exception, I'll reply here: try disabling CONFIG_BPF_PRELOAD, should help.
