Can't update perl due to hivex. Can't remove hivex because of libguestfs. Can't remove libguestfs due to the system being a hypervisor.

+1 to lightdot. specifying a perl maximum version is to be reserved for cases where a software simply does not work with a newer version.

@bidulock, please remove _perl_depends from PKGBUILD. This is a wrong approach, AUR packages should not block system updates.

@bidulock You don't understand that you can't update the perl to 5.30 if hivex is installed on system thus rebuilding hivex is pointless (and this commit was pointless too https://aur.archlinux.org/cgit/aur.git/commit/?h=hivex&id=84595b1331e0)? You have to remove hivex first, update perl then build hivex again which sucks and that's why you should remove that code from PKGBUILD.

Also pacman -Syu --assume-installed perl=xxx isn't solution. The broken deps belong to maintainer to fix not the user.

We had exactly same situation year ago and people told you what to do which was ignored. That code was removed from the template that you originally copied from because it was bad idea. If you don't want to maintain this package properly then orphan it and someone else will do the job.

Rebuild the package against a current system.

Please remove "_perl_depends" from PKGBUILD. It does more harm than good. AUR packages shouldn't block system update ever.

:: installing perl (5.30.0-2) breaks dependency 'perl<5.29' required by hivex

building version 1.3.18 from http://libguestfs.org/download/hivex/ sha256sums=('8a1e788fd9ea9b6e8a99705ebd0ff8a65b1bdee28e319c89c4a965430d0a7445') just working for me here.

Would it be possible to upgrade the bindings to Python3?
