I cannot share my screen either, using Chromium.

Hi

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but is this the same plugin as the hangouts plug-in available as an RPM or DEB at https://www.google.com/tools/dlpage/hangoutplugin/download.html
If not anyone know if there is a package for hangouts?

I have the basic video and phone calls working in chrome, but I can not share my screen (g.co/present) it just sits "starting screen sharing,," forever.

I think you're right ava1ar: http://www.cnet.com/news/in-chrome-googles-hangouts-plugin-goes-extinct/

@Creak

Yep, pluign still needed for Firefox. Looks like Hangout uses something else, besides WebRTC (NaCl may be?) which is not working in Firefox (at least, for now). Will see, how it goes, but I would not expect Hangouts will start working on Firefox without plugin soon - Google need and want to push own browser, so it may use this and delay the migration process for Firefox.

From what I see in the link below, Firefox should handle WebRTC too. Is it the case? Do we still need google-talkplugin when running Firefox?

Yep, looks like this plugin is not developed anymore, no updates for 3 months already...

I don't think so.

I just uninstalled this plugin and tested using Hangouts from chromium to make a call to a North American cell phone number.

Worked fine without the plugin installed.

It's not required for Hangouts but I think it's still required for Google Talk for making real phone calls.

It's not required for Hangouts but I think it's still required for Google Talk for making real world phone calls.
