I have downgraded this package to v1.7.0 and applied the patch from abucodonosor to let it compile on kernel version 5.9.

Please note sickcodes' comment about removing /etc/udev/rules.d/99-displaylink.rules if you have issues with X crashing.

Once the new versions of DisplayLink are available which use evdi > 1.7.0, I will switch back to keeping this package up-to-date with upstream.

Looks like this is the upstream bug:

Won't build against kernel 5.5.1

Anyone else got the problem of a permanently running fan (X1 Carbon 6th gen) after updating this package to the recent version (1.6.4-2)?

squalou commented on 2019-12-06 13:38

I did 'fork' this package to a evdi-4.19 one which is the same without the 5.4 patch. Not an ideal solution, but may help. (at least helps me :) )

I hope I'll delete it soon

ruub101 commented on 2019-12-06 13:32

As of release 1.6.4-2 I cannot compile this package anymore on Manjaro Linux using kernel 4.19. Anyone else having similar issues ?

squalou commented on 2019-12-06 13:21

Hi, sorry to tell : it fails on 4.19.75-1-lts (probably on all

Also on 5.3.13 (update to 5.4 fails, see further below)

Consult /var/lib/dkms/evdi/1.6.4/build/make.log for more information

make[1]: Entering directory '/usr/lib/modules/4.19.75-1-lts/build' test -e include/generated/autoconf.h -a -e include/config/auto.conf || ( \

echo >&2; \

echo >&2 " ERROR: Kernel configuration is invalid."; \

echo >&2 " include/generated/autoconf.h or include/config/auto.conf are missing.";\

echo >&2 " Run 'make oldconfig && make prepare' on kernel src to fix it."; \

echo >&2 ; \

Edit for 5.4 kernel i get this error : module not found: `aes_x86_64'

but kernel still boots ... weird

looks like I'm trapped in an vicious circle :)

Thank you very much all for your hard work, it compiles fine again.

mwawrzyniak commented on 2019-12-05 15:34

Posted a update based on the discussion at

Hopefully this fixes 5.4 DKMS building and doesn't break prior kernels.

Thanks to @abucodonosor and @severach on GitHub.

I needed a few extra steps:

After you got the patch with wget, you should apply it:

patch -Np1 < /tmp/evdi/evdi-aur-linux-54.patch

Then it missed the version number from the library:

Line 56 of PKGBUILD should be

install -D -m 755 library/$$pkgver $pkgdir/usr/lib/$

(note the .$pkgver)

Then, not to apply the patch again, I did

mv /tmp/evdi/evdi-aur-linux-54.patch /tmp/evdi/evdi-aur-linux-54.patch.bak

After that, makepkg -si was ok for me.
