This package no longer works on 32-bit arch installs.

In case you are not aware, Arch has dropped native support for i686 (32-bit x86) installs. The ArchLinux32 project was started to provide support to users of 32-bit systems. See https://archlinux32.org/ for more information.

The distro change affects this package because the ID in /etc/os-release on ArchLinux32 is now "arch32" instead of "arch". So OS_RELEASE_ID gets set to "arch32" instead of "arch", which in turn causes OS_FAMILY to be set to "gentoo" instead of "arch", and consequently on execution I got the error message "etc-update: ERROR: missing portageq".

For me, adding "|arch32" to the case line with "arch" solved the issue.

I was going to post a patch upstream, but I couldn't seem to find the git repo for etc-update, so I thought it was acceptable to report it here instead and have you patch it as you see fit.

Thanks for taking the time to maintain this excellent tool for Arch users!

Update made upstream to support archarm, please wait for portage 2.3.41 to be released to have it reflected here.

Updated to 2.3.28: the Arch support has been moved upstream in Gentoo portage and the package is now much leaner.

@Trilby fair point, this has been corrected

Note that the AUR is not for hosting code. The source code should be placed elsewhere.

Please move the script to github or a filesharing site.

@Ataraxy: I've updated the URL, thanks! Not sure what you mean about the 404 error, it works fine for me:

$ git clone https://aur.archlinux.org/etc-update.git
Cloning into 'etc-update'...

git clone URL is 404.

PKGBUILD url= should be https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Handbook:X86/Portage/Tools#etc-update

Didn't see this anywhere, so thought I'd mention it: you need to have the EDITOR variable set to make this work.

@Trigger: Done, now it will search /usr/share/config also.
