i'm not surprised pacaur (and likely any aur helper) has problems building this.

The reason for the versioned dependency on cndrvcups-common-lb is that a cndrvcups-lb version ONLY works with 1 specific cndrvcups-common-lb version .

The correct way to build them goes like this :

build new cndrvcups-common-lb
remove old cndrvcups-lb version (if present on system)
install new cndrcups-common-lb
build & install new cndrvcups-lb version

Easiest way to build this with pacaur : use 2 commands like this :
pacaur -S cndrvcups-common-lb
pacaur -S cndrvcups-lb

The PKGBUILD for v5 is almost ready. Canon changed many things, and everything is now in one package. The code is also pure 64-bit now and has no need for multilib anymore.

Severach and I have been in touch and we both agree that a name change is needed.

Soon I'll upload a NEW cnrdrvcups-lb package, and add Severach as co-maintainer.

It will conflict with cndrvcups-lb & cndrvcups-common-lb, but not replace them. Tests by Severach has shown cups printers using the old version will HAVE to be deleted and remade for the new driver.

I am making progress, but the changes made by canon are rather big.

Currently I have everything upto build() functional, next is the package() function. Once the package builds the new version, I intend to upload it as cnrdrvrcups-lb and ask for help with testing.

This weekend I have little time, next week is better.

I tried downloading the .tar.gz from the Canon website and compiling it using the old PKGBUILD (after renaming everything to cnRdrvcups..., changing the version to 5.00 and the file names in patch files respectively), cnrdrvcups-common-lb first, but was getting either logpipe: unbound variable or _builddir: unbound variable. Looking forward to seeing the updated PKGBUILD and updated package because I have not printed anything in a year, which is funny because I am the most advanced Linux user in our department, and I can’t print a thing.

canon appears to have changed from cndrv to cnrdrv and the internal structure of the tarball has also changed.

A quick peek suggests the *-spec files common and lb have been combined into one file that builds both.

Anonymo is correct,

https://www.canon-europe.com/support/products/imagerunner/imagerunner-1730i.html?type=drivers&driverdetailid=tcm:13-1506758&os=linux&language=en

Flagging this and cndrvcups-common-lb as out-of-date.

Looks like driver was updated in August: https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/details/printers/color-laser/mf8280cw?tab=drivers_downloads

I created an iR-ADV C2020i/2030i UFRII to file device and it generates test page to a print file without hanging.

Same problem. c3pldrv eats the resources of one core without any advancements. Tried both this version and the -bin one.

I can't print anything with Canon iR-ADV C2020i/2030i UFRII c3pldrv hangs at 100% CPU usage, google suggests this issue has been fixed a year ago? I just built this as instructed, tried the -bin one too.
