How do you install the driver?

The usuall method I use:

yaourt catalyst-test
sudo pacman -S acpid
sudo systemctl enable atieventsd
sudo systemctl start atieventsd
sudo systemctl enable catalyst-hook
sudo systemctl start catalyst-hook
sudo aticonfig --initial

edit grub.cfg with: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="nomodeset"
sudo grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg

It has caused me to get a completely broken system, all I get at boot is a flashing cursor after it mounts my drives with no rescue prompt.

My card is a R9 270x by the way.

I don't really play COD4, almost never played it :/

(Still add me on Steam, I got a lot of other games ^^)

As for the cs - i really don't have much time latelly :(. Right now for example I wish i could play more in dragon age inquisition, because I really liked it, but all this work (and no play makes jack a dull boy ;P) and girl and cat :) are taking soo much time...
Also im not that good in cs, you would kick my ass ;P hmm... what about oldie cod4? :)

It sometimes goes higher than 60fps (like 200fps in loadings, or when I look at the sky), so it's probably not VSync . I disabled composing (I'm using xfce, so I did "xfwm4 --compositor=off --replace &" to remove compiz and to start xfwm without composing, and tear-free is disabled.

I'll find what's the problem later, thanks a lot for helping me :)

60fps is the worst value, it means that you have got v-sync enabled, and it always sucked on catalysts...

go to amdcccle and disable tear-free and set v-sync to always off

also disable compositing as it is performance killer, ie you can disable kde's compositior (kwin) on the fly with Left Alt + Left Shift + F12

Wow ... I only have 60 fps and a lot of freezes. I'll find what's the problem :)

If you want to play CS someday, add me on Steam ! ( ) (I'm around MG2 - DMG)

120-200 fps on highest and 2xmsaa (blur disabled, i dont like it) on 2560x1440.
And yes, fpses and rpgs are my favs :)

Perdouille commented on 2014-12-11 21:32

How many FPS ?

(I got 60fps maximum with my 7870 with details on low, but around 200 - 300 under windows with everything on max :/ )

That's cool to know that you're playing Global Offensive :)

Everything is in this package. CS:GO works very good here (on 290X).
Disable Compositing, Tear-Free and V-Sync, should help
