Thanks for this. Minor bug, seems like this file needs updating:

https://aur.archlinux.org/cgit/aur.git/tree/canon-pixma-mg3000-complete-scangear.desktop?h=canon-pixma-mg3000-complete

Currently it contains:

[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Name=Cannon Scangear (MG5200 series)
Exec=/usr/bin/scangearmp
Icon=/usr/share/pixmaps/canon-pixma-mg5200-complete-scangear-icon.png
Categories=Graphics;2DGraphics;
Name[en_US]=canon-pixma-mg5500-complete-scangear.desktop

Name, Exec and Icon fields have the wrong paths:

  • Exec should be /usr/bin/scangearmp2
  • Name / Name[en_US] should be MG3000
  • Icon should be /usr/share/pixmaps/canon-pixma-mg3000-complete-scangear-icon.png

The udev files should probably be patched according to this: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Talk:Udev#Use_of_.27uaccess.27_instead_of_GROUP_and_MODE.3F

Extracting the .deb files with bsdtar would be much more efficient than using deb2targz. You would then have the data.tar.* file that was inside the .deb to extract.
