Just an FYI on certain warnings appearing during the installation:

  • Warning about optional dependencies -> Bug in npm ignoring the --no-optional flag (https://github.com/npm/npm/issues/17633)

  • Reference to $srcdir ... -> Again unwanted behaviour in npm which saves absolute paths in the package.json file (https://github.com/npm/npm/issues/10393). These warnings can safely be ignored since package.json is not used after installation.

  • Security alerts -> Upstream issue, I'll try looking into it and fix things where possible

Package was update to v0.11.17 as the authors finally tagged the release on the main git repository.

I've created a patch for Electron 5 compatibility which fixed part of the issue but the package still isn't working. The problem seems to run deeper.

As I'm wrapping up my studies and moving to work soon I just don't have the time, especially considering the fact that the authors don't really update their dependencies leading to more and more issues that need to be patched to keep the package up and running.

EDIT: The second issue seems to be related to NPM. As Boostnote officially utilizes Yarn the package was updated to also utilize it. The most important aspect is to get the package up and running again, which should be the case now (fully compatible with Electron v5.x) and when I have time I'll investigate the deeper issues and submit some PRs upstream if possible. I've adopted the package again :)

Any reason why you disowned the package?

@hiciu I'm indeed experiencing the same problems. The main issue is that the project itself is officially still using Electron 3.x with me implementing a patch for 4.X support (which has not yet been merged upstream). I'll look into the breaking changes for 5.x and see if a patch can be made.

Anyone having troubles with starting boostnote after electron 4.1.4-1 -> 5.0.6-1 upgrade?

[2019-06-29 13:59] [ALPM] upgraded electron (4.1.4-1 -> 5.0.6-1)
[2019-06-29 13:59] [ALPM] installed electron4 (4.2.5-1)

For me it hangs on the screen with logo and spinner, with few "ReferenceError: require is not defined" messages in the developer tools.

@jimbojim I've tested the package through a regular install and clean build with both working without any issues. Looking at the error it also doesn't seem related to the package, but more likely with your local install. If the issue persists you might find more luck posting it on the Arch forums.

@SirJson Thanks for that patch! It took a bit longer to fix the package as it's not compatible with Electron 4 (currently available in the Arch repo's) so I had to fix that too. Everything should now be fixed with these patches, let me know if you experience any additional/new issues.

Until they release a new version that builds I stitched together a patch from an upstream commit that fixes the problem:
