This is still working. But you have to make sure amixer is on the correct default device. with the introduction of pipewire, this might be decoupled from the pulseaudio default device.

list devices:

cat /proc/asound/cards

Checkout default alsa device:

amixer

if this is wrong (you see the wrong sinks), then you can change the selected card like this (for example the second device):

amixer -c2

Now personally I do not know how to change alsa's default device with all this pipewire stuff going on, so I had to change it in the CLI source code of blockify.

Every reference of an amixer process call should become something like subprocess.check_output(["amixer", "-c2", "get", channel]) in /usr/lib/python3.9/site-packages/blockify/cli.py

~ $ grep amixer /usr/lib/python3.9/site-packages/blockify/cli.py
        amixer_output = subprocess.check_output(["amixer", "-c2"])
        if "'Speaker',0" in amixer_output.decode("utf-8"):
        if "'Headphone',0" in amixer_output.decode("utf-8"):
                output = subprocess.check_output(["amixer", "-c2", "get", channel])
        self.update_audio_channel_state(["amixer", "-c2", "-q", "set"], state)
        self.update_audio_channel_state(["amixer", "-c2", "-qD", "pulse", "set"], state)
            log.error("Spotify sink not found. Is Pulse running? Resorting to pulse amixer as mute method.")
            self.mutemethod = self.pulse_mute  # Fall back to amixer mute.

I hope this helps anyone just trying it to get to work post pipewire.
