Please consider updating to Anki 2.1 :

Anki 2.0 was the previous stable release. No further updates are expected, as the toolkit it was built on has been discontinued. To minimize the risk of bugs and security issues, please consider upgrading to Anki 2.1.

I am hence dropping this package.

Thanks, I have updated the PKGBUILD (but forgot to bump the pkgrel ^^').

The download has moved to https://apps.ankiweb.net/downloads/archive/anki-2.0.52-amd64.tar.bz2

This is great. Especially considering the multiple outdated forms elsewhere.

I agree with @misc's proposal. It should be installed at /opt directory.

Don't feel like bothering. People should just use this package if they get issues when using the beta in community.

We can hope that someday upstream and Qt will work better together and stop breaking things every release... Then Anki 2.0 will finally be able to rest in peace.

I think this should be made installable in parallel to 2.1 by just killing the /usr/share parts and renaming the start script.

Maybe make that an opt-in setting for package()?

Took me a while, but I finally got it working! Thanks much for the package.

Documenting my dumb mistakes in case they're helpful for anyone else:

  1. I tried running Anki from both the command line and dmenu, but it wouldn't start. In the command line, it gave a message that said "Already running; reusing existing instance". Running pkill anki won't kill the running instance because the application wasn't running; it was still running under python3 with __init__.py. Make sure there aren't any instances of Anki running as a python script if you get this message and the Anki GUI won't appear.

  2. The comments about this have gotten buried pretty deep, but install the optional dependency icu48 to get rid of the "Cannot load library icui18n" message. I was very confused because I thought the was the main issue with my install and spent way too much time on it.

  3. If Anki prints a message to the command line saying the GTK+ theme couldn't be found, or it's using the wrong one, you can explicitly tell it which theme to use. I followed this advice from way down in the comments:

@suawekk

It respects my GTK theme if I append "export GTK2_RC_FILES=$HOME/.gtkrc-2.0" to my ~/.profile, where .gtkrc-2.0 contains "gtk-theme-name=$theme"; This fix was given on this page:

To resolve "anki20-bin and gstreamer0.10 are in conflict" edit PKGBUILD and delete 'gstreamer0.10' from the 'conflicts'. Can't understand why gstreamer0.10 should conflict with anki.

The hash is 6beec95298f6f1741b4db95c20e1529e9abcec45ad3e16d2c27b4d8df4fbd66b, there must be something wrong on you're side.

Please update the PKGBUILD.
